Grade 1 recently explored the inquiry of how People use maps and globes to explore communities and the world around them. They used the tool Scratch Jr. to create grid maps for navigational use. Students worked in pairs to create their own grid maps using the coding application. They chose a character and created a pathway for their character to following from a starting point to an end point. The grid lines supported students in assigning commands with greater accuracy. After completing the task students were asked to list the necessary directions to guide their character to the end point identified.
