It’s a bird. It’s a plane! It’s our Grade 1 learning about maps and directions! As part of our “Who We Are in Place in Time” Inquiry, the students at both Marmara and Hisar took to the air. Both classes were able to get a bird’s eye view of their campus with the help of our drone. From the meters high vantage point, not only did we get to see ourselves and our school, but it was a chance to introduce and practice directional phrases.
Our competent pilot took questions from the classes about perspective, direction, and of course, the drone itself.
The excitement was palpable.
Students left with some thought provoking questions to explore throughout the unit, such as “Do we use the same direction words on the ground and in the sky?” and “Are all maps made with a drone?”
